First Real Post
It seems I forgot to change the site admin password on this install of wordpress and am not able to log in as admin to delete that first post. There’s a way to get into the database thing, I think, but I think I will wait for etc to wake up from naptime before doing so. Otherwise I’ll be reading for days (not a bad thing, but at this point, I’m lazy.)
I’ve found that being unemployed leaves one with plenty of time to knit. I still haven’t gotten good or anything, but I can manage to do those flat, square projects likes scarves and dishcloths. Okay, to be completely honest, I’ve so far completed _a_ scarf and almost a dishcloth. A first post would be the time to display photos of such things, wouldn’t it?
The scarf is in storage in Seattle.

My first dishcloth.

Brianna Brash-Nyberg has a new site with a fresh new look. I’ve been reading her stuff for years now. It’s time the rest of you read her too.

I spent the day going through archives, making decisions regarding relevance/importance of certain entries, and pasting it all back into this thing. I’ve gone through the archives enough that what’s left is really a small small piece of what there used to be. All the entries that said “crappy day today. tomorrow better, I hope,” have been gone for awhile now. That’s not to say there won’t be more of those, but every so often I sit down and weed those out.
A purist wouldn’t hear of such outrageousness.
Speaking of… For those of you who are new here, there are a couple of things I shoud probably go over. Things that I have been over in the past, but through all the site and readership changes, I think there are many who missed out on my silly little tirades.
1. Unless it says it’s a blog, do not refer to it as such. Ryan Ozawa has written a nice piece explaining the difference between a journal and a weblog, and dammit I cannot stand that word, “blog.” Read it. Do not call this a weblog. Those of you who have been around awhile will remember that I’ve done the “blog-style-short-quippy-update” thing, with several entries on a page. Also not a blog. Blog /style/. Not blog.
2. I used to write this using a fake name. I am not a fan of pasting my real name all around the internet when I’m spewing the things I spew. I may want to run for office someday. You’ll find that the fake name I used is no longer used here, although there may be a few archived entries that I’ve forgotten to clean up. From now on you may call me jhm. *editorial note: As of July, 2005 I have given up on the whole anonymity thing and moved the journal to jaimebourne.com. So much for politics.
3. The initials. I recently read on a mailing list that people are irritated by initials used in place of names. Normally I agree with that. At least make up a name so your reader has something to anchor stories with in his head. I’m sticking with jhm for me. And etc for the husband. We met on IRC. This is just how it is.
4. Link to the notify list is back up.
5. Once again I’ve switched CMSs. As everyone in the olj world has already discussed over and over again, moveable type has changed its licensing policy. I still could qualify for a free personal license, but just like Bill and Mena have every right to start charging for their stuff, I have every right to ditch their system.
6. wordpress rocks.
