The Princess Bride
So I think I’m like almost the only person in the world who hasn’t seen this movie. I remember in college my roommate would talk about how much she loved it, and the other people in the dorm would chime in in agreeance. (No, we aren’t going to discuss the word again. It’s a word. Don’t argue.) Anyhow I read the book and liked it. It’s like make-believe (or was that make-pretend… It’s been a long time since I’ve watched mister rogers) that is really unbelievable, but then the story sucks you in and pretty soon you believe the animals really are talking.
They don’t talk, I’m referring to that movie with the talking animals – the pig, the dog, the cat – I don’t remeber what they were, but you know they don’t talk, and even if they did, would they all speak the same language?? So you know it’s not real, but after you get over that fact the movie gets you all envolved and you realize that the dog and the pig, they really do love each other.
Amazon has also taught me that S. Morganstern was totally made up by Goldman as part of the story. Didn’t see that coming. Here I was telling etc all about how Goldman abridged the story for his kid. Then I get to the amazon page when I finally sit down to write this and Bam! I’ve got the story all wrong. Silly, naive me.

The Buffathon is finally over. My favorite? I’m leaning towards “Once More, With Feeling,” even though I absolutely cannot stand SMG’s singing voice. It’s not like any of them were particularly Fabulous singers, but she is really nauseating. I do give her credit for trying. I’m sure she has insecurities about it, and here I am not making it any better… But no, I’m entitled to an opinion. I also really liked the one right after that, where they didn’t know each other. OH and the one where they had no voices. Those creepy old men were classically scary.
Also finally finished reading the Linus Torvalds and David Diamond book, “Just for Fun.” It was on etc’s bookshelf… With all that orange, who could resist? I liked it. I liked the history of far more than Torvolds’ philosophy on life, but it’s easy enough to not take the man too seriously.
And wouldn’t it be smart if I could figure out how to get the images from throwing off the alignment of the world when I don’t write enough in an entry?

Suffers from the same “modern” tone as Girlfriend… Yes, I know. Get used to it already. This is his style.
Took me two tries to get through it all. It didn’t quite captivate me the way Girlfriend in a Coma did, but it didn’t suck.
What bothers me is that his characters are so out there. I can’t really relate to any of them. I’m not sure if he’s trying to use the personality flaws of his characters to paint a picture of what happens to society, or if he’s just telling a story. I do have to say Coupland’s sense of humor is both smart and funny. There’s nothing worse than an insultingly condescending story. (See: Ishmael.)
