Suffers from the same “modern” tone as Girlfriend… Yes, I know. Get used to it already. This is his style.
Took me two tries to get through it all. It didn’t quite captivate me the way Girlfriend in a Coma did, but it didn’t suck.
What bothers me is that his characters are so out there. I can’t really relate to any of them. I’m not sure if he’s trying to use the personality flaws of his characters to paint a picture of what happens to society, or if he’s just telling a story. I do have to say Coupland’s sense of humor is both smart and funny. There’s nothing worse than an insultingly condescending story. (See: Ishmael.)
