Last Samurai

After my mother’s incessant “You have to see it. You really have to see it.” pleads reguarding the Last Samurai, we finally rented it. Babybear etc requested this movie for his 13th bday party – and might I just add that I’m glad this kid has better taste than me at 13, or we’d be sitting down to a…

Actually I just IMDB’d that, and this is pretty interesting. In 1989 I was 13. In 1989 another Tom Cruise war flick, Born on the Fourth of July was released, and I recall begging mom and dad to take me to see it. Odd kid. In other 1989 news, Dead Poets Society was also out that year, which I will love forever.

Anyhow, back to the Last Samurai. Wasn’t that great? I’d like to watch it again when no one is around. I’m not so much into the war and fighting, but I liked the dancing around with swords and the heavy petting of the honor and loyalty. Another long movie that didn’t bore me to tears. Yay for decent movies!

Again with the last person on earth

Finally I have seen the three LOTR movies. I wish I saw them in the theater, although I’m sure at some point I’ll get a chance to see them somewhere on a large screen. Those movies were amazing…. The scenes were visually striking, and the storylines managed to hold my attention, which is extremely tricky, given the length of these films.

I can’t wait to read the book.

No images, I’m lazy tonight.
