Shameless Plug

I’m doing the mother’s day 10k. What this means to you, faithful readers, is that you have the chance to help out lots of people. You see, normally if I sign up to do a community run it’s because I want the t-shirt. Or I feel like committing to a certain distance, on a certain date. Or I want to see if there will be good snacks afterwards. Or, if I were still in high school, I’d be doing it because it was required.

But now I’m a grown-up and I get to make these decisions on my own. This time I have to admit, it was mostly because I wanted a goal to work toward. It’s much harder to skip out on a workout when I know I have to show up at a 10k in a few weeks.

Right, I said you have the chance to help people. So normally I sign up for these things and don’t bother with the fund-raising end of it. I figure they got my entrance fee, they’ll be okay. Plus I tend to avoid the races that ask you to solicit funds, worthy as the cause may be. This time I wasn’t even going to read about what they were raising money for. I’m selfish I guess. And then something caught my eye. Trip for two. Including Hawai`i. So all I have to do is raise $750 and I’m in on that drawing. You totally want to help, don’t you? It’s very easy. just click and follow the directions. I feel all infomercially. And a little Amwayish.

Even better than helping me out, you’d be helping out the Calgary Health Trust, which, according to the internet, fundraises “for excellency in health care.” Specifically, donations from this mother’s day 10k will be going to purchase a new echocardiology machine.

Thanks, from the bottom of my heart. And may it never need that echocardiology machine.
