A Promise…

I hereby vow not to touch the lovely balls of Blue Sky Sport in colour 512, eggplant, my very first alpaca yarn, until I have FINISHED knitting the French Baby Sweater.

Knitting in French

April 5th, 2006

Last week I taught my first knitting class! I was excessively nervous beforehand, but now that I know more about what goes on in these things, and now that I’ve met my class, which is full of really cool people, I’m no longer worried about the next two weeks.

After class I decided to pick up a couple of Phildar patterns of baby patterns. And of course, some yarn to get me started on the first pattern. So now since Saturday I’ve been staring at the lovely pictures and patterns and um, french words… Do you know how frustrating it is to want to knit something – and not even something big, but something teeny weeny and baby-sized – but you can’t because all the directions are written in French and who knows WHAT exactly they are saying when they are trying to explain a double decrease. Luckily, there are lots of charts included in this thing, so for the most part, I can follow along that way.

Still, it’s terribly slow. I don’t want my firstborn wearing a lopsided sweater just because his/her mother couldn’t figure out french decreases.
