Note to Self:

December 25th, 2007 · No Comments

Christmas shopping NEEDS to be done BEFORE December 24 next year.  In fact, it should really be done sometime before December even starts.  Maybe we could say that the cutoff should be somewhere around American Thanksgiving.

It’s a family tradition of mine that Christmas Eve should be spent shopping and wrapping presents.  And cleaning the house.  But lucky for me, I don’t live near family.  And I’m anti-social enough to have not invited people over for tomorrow.  Even though I’ve broken the “entertaining” part of my family’s Christmas tradition, I STILL ended up running around town today, finishing up my Christmas shopping.  I was smart enough to stay away from the mall, but I did notice, while driving past the freeway offramp to the mall, that there were lots and lots of cars trying to get into there.

Shopping is crazy.  I have these crazy delusions that I’m going to leisurely shop and find the perfect gifts for people as I peruse the shelves of the one-of-a-kind gift shops.  When I’m coming up with these crazy things, I forget that it takes forever just to find a parking stall, and once you’ve done that, you have to hike it to the store that you’re attempting to shop in.  And even then, after you spent some time wandering around, finding those oh-so-perfect gifts, you have to stand in line to check out.  The line at the Chapters/Indigo by my house went from the front of the store, where the cash registers are, to the back of the store, where the Starbucks is.  (Don’t go spreading this around, but C/I is akin to Wal-Mart, in that the standing in the electronics line totally works!  The boy in the CD area even told me that you don’t have to buy a CD to qualify to pay in his little corral.  That info is gold and you all owe me some cashmere.  Or an Enell bra.)

Also, I am an excellent knitter.  Why the heck am I not KNITTING for people??

Jonah spent the day running around the house, playing, eating, and pooping.  And talking and dancing.  Can’t forget the dancing.  I have to whip out the video camera tomorrow…  Someone has taught him this crazy dance move where he flails his arms in the air.  I don’t think that comes from his father or me, but it’s still cute.

We’re looking forward to tomorrow.  Jonah doesn’t know that he gets stuff tomorrow, and I might be tempted to withhold some gifts so that we can stretch out the magic of Christmas for a few more days…  We’ll see how it goes.

In totally unrelated news, the weather here is ridiculously warm.  We have not had snow fall in a few days, and most of what had fallen back when it was last cold, is melted.

I must go to sleep now so that Santa can show up.  Merry Christmas.
