I am impressed with the shoes. And the shoe stretcher. And maybe we can all give me some of that credit too. I wore the shoes.

On Thursday I could barely walk to the other side of the office and I made it maybe three hours total with them on. On Friday, after the right shoe sat in the shoe stretcher over night and the left one for several hours, I was able to put them on at 6 and I took them off at around 10 or 11. I think. In all honesty I don’t know what time I took them off, as my watch did not match the outfit, so I didn’t wear it, but I know that I danced a lot and most of the dancing was done in shoes.

I don’t have pictures of the shoes, but here’s a link.

Now I will stop talking about them.

The party was fun: Food, drinks, games, prizes, and dancing. I haven’t gone dancing in at least 8 years. I had forgotten how much fun it is. Remember those high school dances where everyone sat around on the gymnasium bleachers, just watching the cool kids dance? And by cool kids I mean the ones who were smart enough to know that it was more fun to dance than to stand on the side judging. (Although I did my fair share of judging too…) Well this was kind of like that, except I’m still a dork despite the amount of time I spent on the dance floor.

Thankful for a super snowy snow day today, which I am using to nurse my hangover.

Jim got me a shoe stretcher and the right one will sit on the stretcher overnight in hopes that there will be some sort of Festivus miracle and in the morning it will fit, because dammit, these shoes are hot and I really really want them to fit.

At least the dress fits.

We went camping with the puppy cult/dog snobs this weekend. We had a great time, but we are the only ones with a two-year old, so we spent most of the weekend being anti-social at our own campsite instead of with the rest of the group at site #10. (We missed you guys even though we were right there!)

Last night jim’s phone started vibrating madly and never really stopped. Not like the vibration that you get when your phone rings, but a continuous buzzing. And then it died. Of course, it died when he was out in the middle of the night and I had no way of contacting him… Anyhow the consensus this morning was that the phone had died. So our plan was that he would get my phone and I would get a new phone. Except I couldn’t find my phone.

After some serious searching, we figured out where it was: jim was kind enough to throw my cell into the washing machine.

So we had to replace two phones. Luckily the boy at fido was able to see beyond the fact that jim’s phone was a month and a day out of it’s warranty period, so we only had to pay for my phone. Which is shiny. And pretty. And an iPhone.

And totally cheaper than that second dog I keep fantasizing about.

I got an iTouch for christmas, which Jim spent several hours working on. I believe “jailbreaking” is the proper term for what we’ve done to this puppy. So now I am able to run most of the iPhone apps. This means I can IRC and read email from my little iTouch. It’s an amazing little Pod of Christmas Joy.

In other news, I’m back on track with my workouts. I’m not yet posting on the other site, but let it be known to the Intarweb that I have now done a hardcore cardio workout for the past three days. And today we went snowboarding. And then I went to the gym. And I did lower body strength, which will surely hurt two days from now.

I have an interview tomorrow. Happy thoughts.

Christmas shopping NEEDS to be done BEFORE December 24 next year. In fact, it should really be done sometime before December even starts. Maybe we could say that the cutoff should be somewhere around American Thanksgiving.

It’s a family tradition of mine that Christmas Eve should be spent shopping and wrapping presents. And cleaning the house. But lucky for me, I don’t live near family. And I’m anti-social enough to have not invited people over for tomorrow. Even though I’ve broken the “entertaining” part of my family’s Christmas tradition, I STILL ended up running around town today, finishing up my Christmas shopping. I was smart enough to stay away from the mall, but I did notice, while driving past the freeway offramp to the mall, that there were lots and lots of cars trying to get into there.

Shopping is crazy. I have these crazy delusions that I’m going to leisurely shop and find the perfect gifts for people as I peruse the shelves of the one-of-a-kind gift shops. When I’m coming up with these crazy things, I forget that it takes forever just to find a parking stall, and once you’ve done that, you have to hike it to the store that you’re attempting to shop in. And even then, after you spent some time wandering around, finding those oh-so-perfect gifts, you have to stand in line to check out. The line at the Chapters/Indigo by my house went from the front of the store, where the cash registers are, to the back of the store, where the Starbucks is. (Don’t go spreading this around, but C/I is akin to Wal-Mart, in that the standing in the electronics line totally works! The boy in the CD area even told me that you don’t have to buy a CD to qualify to pay in his little corral. That info is gold and you all owe me some cashmere. Or an Enell bra.)

Also, I am an excellent knitter. Why the heck am I not KNITTING for people??

Jonah spent the day running around the house, playing, eating, and pooping. And talking and dancing. Can’t forget the dancing. I have to whip out the video camera tomorrow… Someone has taught him this crazy dance move where he flails his arms in the air. I don’t think that comes from his father or me, but it’s still cute.

We’re looking forward to tomorrow. Jonah doesn’t know that he gets stuff tomorrow, and I might be tempted to withhold some gifts so that we can stretch out the magic of Christmas for a few more days… We’ll see how it goes.

In totally unrelated news, the weather here is ridiculously warm. We have not had snow fall in a few days, and most of what had fallen back when it was last cold, is melted.

I must go to sleep now so that Santa can show up. Merry Christmas.

So I’ve been drooling over the knitpicks options interchangeable needles since the day they came out, but have never found a reason to justify my buying them. Today I’m reading the latest knitty, which, incidentally contains the pattern which I’ve been bugging Amy about since I noticed the sweater sitting in the shop (very excited, and doesn’t terra look great modelling it!) But that is all not the point. The point is, have you seen the NEW BIRCH KNITPICKS OPTIONS NEEDLES?!? I am not a fan of the rainbow tips, but with all the positive reviews of the original metal set, I’m confident that this birch set will be just as wonderful! And more economical than the addis that I’ve been buying of late…

It’s been hard to post regularly, but I’m still here and I still intend on one day writing as frequently as I ever did… Which of course, isn’t all that much, but it’s more than what you’re getting now.

Today’s post is all about the things I love. If I were Oprah, this would be my favorite things episode and I would shower you all with free stuff. But I’m not, so you’ll just have to read about these things I love and remember that when you’re in the market for such things, how great I said they are.

My first plug for today is for Clever Canines, the best dog training company ever. Of course, I haven’t tried any others, and now that I’ve taken my dog to clever canines, there will never be a need for me to try others… But really, Tracie at Clever Canines is the best. It’s not like I had a problem dog, though, so I don’t have any crazy horror stories to share. I can tell you that before we went to Clever Canines, Missy was a very bad leashwalker. She would pull and we would get grouchy with her, and the whole dog walk would be such a chore. And then I had Jonah and there was no way I was going to walk her AND Jonah at the same time – she might pull me over! Jonah was a worn baby so if I fell over, I’d squish him.

Now she will walk with us both on and off a leash. She will sit or lie down and patiently wait until we are ready to go. This is her at the beach, watching kids run around and play. She does all sorts of things that I never expected my dog to do. We are currently working on beating chuck in the balance things on your head contest.

I truly believe that if you live in Calgary and you own a dog, you need Clever Canines.

Motherease diapers. We tried a few other diapers before these. First there were the prefolds with the bummi wraps. Not a fan of the bummis. Then there were the stacinator fleece wraps. (The stacinator wool wraps were excellent, but didn’t last long because Jim didn’t realize they are wool and not allowed in the washer. They totally feel like cotton jersey.) Really pretty but I never could get them to work the way they are supposed to. Then there were fuzzi bunz. We thought they were the perfect diaper for a few months… There really isn’t anything wrong with them – they just leaked more than I wanted them to. And then FINALLY when Jonah was 7 months or so, I ordered some motherease after reading several reviews on my crunchy mama list. Since receiving my order we have asked ourselves over and over again why we didn’t just use the motherease from the start.

Carol’s Hummous from recipeczaar. Topped with tomatoes, served on whole wheat pita.

There is more but this entry has been sitting in the drafts folder for over a month and it’s time to finish it off already.
